Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is an operation performed through small incisions, using a camera, to diagnose a condition or perform surgery. Our physicians at Omaha OB/GYN perform laparoscopic hysterectomy and may use laparoscopy in the treatment of:

  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Tumors
  • Pelvic endometriosis
  • Pelvic adhesions

Laparoscopic Surgery: Conditions Treated

Omaha OB/GYN may recommend laparoscopic procedures for the following conditions:

Ectopic Pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most often in a fallopian tube. Laparoscopic surgery allows for precise removal of the pregnancy while preserving reproductive health and minimizing recovery time.

Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that can cause heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and pressure. Laparoscopic surgery can remove fibroids with smaller incisions, reducing discomfort and promoting a faster return to normal activities compared to traditional surgery.

Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that may cause pain, bloating, or menstrual changes. Laparoscopic surgery offers a minimally invasive way to remove cysts, relieve symptoms, and protect healthy ovarian tissue for future fertility.

Tumors

Benign or malignant tumors within the pelvic region can be removed laparoscopically in select cases. This minimally invasive approach reduces recovery time and scarring while providing effective treatment tailored to each patient’s diagnosis and needs.

Pelvic Endometriosis

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing pain and fertility issues. Laparoscopic surgery can locate and remove these growths, relieve symptoms, and improve the chances of conception.

Pelvic Adhesions

Pelvic adhesions are bands of scar tissue that can form after surgery, infection, or inflammation, sometimes causing pain or infertility. Laparoscopic surgery can carefully separate these adhesions, restoring organ movement and reducing discomfort.
